| Obverse description | Central field features the Portuguese royal arms within an ornate shield, displaying the traditional quartered escutcheon with five quinas and the bordure of castles, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is encircled by a small armillary sphere, the distinctive device associated with the Portuguese overseas territories, rendered in a somewhat crude hammered style characteristic of the Goa mint. The overall composition is contained within a plain inner circle, with the surrounding field showing the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage from this period. |

| Reverse description | Bold floriated Cross of Saint Thomas (Cruz de São Tomé) occupying the full field, with elaborate trefoil terminals at each arm. The four quadrants formed by the cross contain the divided face value and date: '12' and 'X' in the upper quarters, and the date numerals — partially visible as '18' and the final digits — in the lower quarters. The cross arms are thick and boldly struck, in a style consistent with hammered gold coinage produced at the Goa mint during the reign of João VI. |
