Obverse description Central crowned oval shield of the Prince of Portugal, bearing the royal Portuguese arms with the quinas (five escutcheons) and castles, surrounded by ornate mannerist scrollwork and flanked by decorative foliate elements in the field. The crowned shield is rendered in the hammered style characteristic of Goa mint production, with bold relief typical of Indo-Portuguese gold coinage. No peripheral legend is present on this face.
