| Obverse description | Crowned royal arms of Portugal centered in the field, flanked by the mint letters M and A (for Malaca), struck at the Goa mint for circulation in Malacca. The shield is rendered in a crude, hand-struck style typical of hammered coinage of the period. The letters appear as 'A-M' on the die but are conventionally read as 'M-A', representing the Malaca mint mark. The overall design is contained within a plain, irregular border consistent with hammered gold coinage of Portuguese India. |
