| Descrizione del dritto | Central shield bearing the Royal Arms of Scotland — a rampant lion within a double tressure flory-counter-flory — surmounted by an arched and jewelled crown with fleurs-de-lis and crosses pattée. A thistle plant rises on each side of the shield, serving as heraldic supporters in the field. The circumferential legend in Latin reads around the entire coin, naming the joint monarchs Mary and Henry by the grace of God, Queen and King of Scots. The die is struck on an irregular flan typical of mid-16th century Scottish hammered coinage, with the legend partially weak at the margins. |
