Reverse description Centrally placed within an irregular lobed cartouche, the mint name is inscribed in two lines of Nasta'liq script reading 'Zarb Mashhad Muqaddas' (Struck at Holy Mashhad). The cartouche is outlined with dotted pellet ornaments and set against a broad, smooth and largely plain field that contrasts with the heavily decorated obverse. The overall composition is characteristic of Afsharid coinage from the Mashhad mint, reflecting the city's status as a sacred site.
