Rupee - Sahib Singh Patiala

Sahib Singh ruled Patiala from 1773 to 1813, navigating the turbulent collapse of Sikh confederacy power and the rising pressure of both Maratha and, later, British encroachment. He concluded a treaty with the East India Company in 1809 — the same Treaty of Amritsar that brought Patiala under British protection and effectively ended the state's independent military ambitions. Coinage struck across his long reign reflects no single mint year by design, a deliberate practice among Sikh-era states that frustrates precise dating but was standard bookkeeping for dynastic continuity.
