| Obverse description | Hammered silver rupee struck in the name of the Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah, issued under the authority of Shambhuji II of Kolhapur. The obverse field displays bold Persian/Nastaliq script legends in the name of Muhammad Shah, characteristic of Maratha imitative rupees of this period. The inscription is arranged in two or three lines across the coin face, with pellet ornaments and floral devices visible in the field margins. Weight varies between 10.7 and 11.6 grams across the series, reflecting the hand-struck hammered technique. The coin was struck during the reign of Shambhuji II, spanning 2 August 1714 to 20 December 1760. |
