Reverse description The reverse features the denomination '1/4 RUPEE' and the Malayali Era date '1086' inscribed in the center within an open wreath of laurel or foliate branches. The legend 'RAMA VURMA' arcs across the upper field and 'TRAVANCORE' across the lower field in Latin script, flanked by small star stops. The overall layout presents a clean, uncluttered design typical of trial or pattern issues struck for the Travancore princely state.

Additional information

Travancore maintained its own coinage authority well into the British Raj period, one of the few princely states permitted to do so. This copper trial piece for the quarter rupee dates to the reign of Moolam Thirunal, who ruled from 1885 until his death in 1924 — a reign long enough that multiple coinage revisions were considered, though not all reached circulation. Pattern and trial strikings from Travancore are poorly documented in the standard references; KM#Pn3 represents one of the scarcer entries in the series, with surviving examples extremely difficult to trace through auction records.
