Obverse description Four-line Persian religious legend in elegant nastaliq script occupying the entire field, reading: 'The sun and moon of gold and silver appeared in the world from the coinage of the rightful Imam, the Lord of Time (Sahib al-Zaman).' The inscription references the Twelfth Imam in keeping with Zand-era Shi'a devotional coin tradition. Floral and vegetal spray ornaments punctuate the spaces between the lines of script. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border characteristic of hammered Iranian coinage of the period.
