| Obverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic devotional and royal legend in bold nasta'liq script, reading 'Banda-yi Shah-i Wilayat Isma'il, Zarb Rasht' with the AH date 1167 inscribed in retrograde numerals in the lower portion of the field. The inscription is arranged in sweeping curved bands characteristic of late Safavid hammered coinage. The field is surrounded by a beaded border. The retrograde rendering of the mint date is a noted diagnostic feature of this Rasht mint type. |
