The central cartouche is enclosed by a plain inner border and a bold outer beaded border typical of Safavid hammered rupees. The inscription is boldly raised against a flat, slightly irregular field, reflecting the hand-struck production method. This Shi'a formula, incorporating the name of Imam Ali, is a hallmark of Safavid coinage throughout the dynasty's history. |
