Novodels — restrike patterns produced by the St. Petersburg Mint for sale to collectors, typically from the mid-19th century onward — occupy an awkward but genuine place in Russian numismatics. This piece was almost certainly struck well after 1808, using either original or replacement dies, as part of that official but commercially motivated restrike program. The Bit reference H682 places it among Bitkin's "honorary" novodel listings, meaning the original pattern itself may never have circulated or even been formally submitted for imperial approval.
