This 1807 pattern ruble was part of a broader effort to modernize Russian coinage under Aleksandr I, with designs prepared by the St. Petersburg Mint as proposals for a new coinage standard that was ultimately not adopted in the form tested. Bit#674 is among the rarer documented die trials from this period, surviving in small numbers almost certainly because patterns of this era were retained by mint officials or presented as diplomatic gifts rather than submitted to general circulation.
