This ruble was issued as part of Russia's ongoing commemorative footballer series, honoring Aleksandr Anyukov at the height of his career with Zenit Saint Petersburg, the club that would win the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup just one year later in 2008. The Bank of Russia has produced dozens of such sports personality issues, most in modest quantities destined for collector sets rather than circulation.
