Obverse description Armored standing knight in full martial attire, facing right, grasping an upright sword in the right hand and a bundle of seven arrows symbolizing the United Provinces in the left hand. The effigy is rendered in a bold, late-Renaissance hammered style characteristic of Dutch provincial coinage of the late 16th century. The figure is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the legend disposed in the outer annulus. A mintmark for the Middelburg mint appears at the top of the coin.
