This 1982 piece was part of Monnaie de Paris's series commemorating the bicentennial run-up to 1989, issued across the decade as France built toward the 200th anniversary of the Revolution. Florentine bronze — an alloy finished with a distinctive matte oxidized surface — was a deliberate choice for the series, evoking aged patina without the ambiguity of actual wear.
