Richard Howe's victory at the Glorious First of June 1794 — the first major fleet action of the French Revolutionary Wars — was celebrated in Britain with a wave of commemorative material, medals among them. This replica reproduces one of those pieces, almost certainly derived from the Boulton and Watt medal struck at the Soho Mint in Birmingham, which produced several official and semi-official commemoratives following the battle. The nickel brass composition places manufacture firmly in the twentieth century.
