The original 1874 coin this replicates was struck to mark the 60th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution, issued by Norges Bank at a moment when Norway was still formally united with Sweden under the Act of Union. The dual denomination — 20 Kroner on one face, 5 Speciedaler on the other — reflects the monetary transition then underway, as Norway prepared to abandon the speciedaler in favor of the krone ahead of the 1875 Scandinavian Monetary Union.
Norges Bank issued this 2010 replica as part of its numismatic commemorative program. Gold-plated copper-nickel rather than struck gold.
