Nothing in the original Kwangtung provincial coinage was ever struck in copper-nickel plated steel — this is a modern reproduction, not a period piece. The genuine ½ tael issues attributed to Kwangtung are themselves poorly documented and rarely authenticated without dispute, which has made the type a recurring target for replica production.
