| Aanvullende informatie |
Saxe-Hildburghausen was among the smallest and most financially precarious of the Ernestine duchies, and 1758 fell squarely in the middle of the Seven Years' War — a conflict that devastated the Saxon territories through occupation, requisition, and the near-total disruption of normal trade. Ernest Frederick III Charles ruled a territory so indebted that the Imperial Aulic Council placed the duchy under fiscal administration in 1769. Coinage from his reign, particularly in fractional thaler denominations, was often struck to meet immediate liquidity needs rather than as a considered monetary program.
