| Beschrijving keerzijde | Within an inner beaded circle, a large crowned Roman capital 'R' — initial of Emperor Rudolf II — occupies the central field, the date 1604 divided to either side of the letter's stem. A crown surmounts the 'R' from above. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design in the outer margin, separated from the central device by the beaded border. The overall composition follows the standard Rechenpfennig layout issued by the Bohemian Chamber at Kuttenberg. |

Rechenpfennige were not coins in any monetary sense — they were reckoning tokens, used on counting boards (Rechentische) to perform arithmetic before Arabic numerals had fully displaced the abacus in Central European commerce and administration. Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, governed from Prague, which made Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora) — still operating its historic royal mint — a natural production site for these tokens during his reign. Their proliferation across Bohemian merchant and administrative culture reflects just how slowly positional arithmetic displaced older calculating methods even among literate professionals.
