Additional information

Martin I inherited the Aragonese crown in 1396 following the childless death of his brother Joan I, and the Valencian reals struck during his reign reflect a mint operating under the administrative framework established by the earlier Aragonese monetary reforms. His reign ended in 1410 equally without an heir, triggering the Interregnum and the Compromise of Caspe — one of the more consequential succession crises in medieval Iberian history. Cru#527 pieces attributable to this type rarely surface in better than Fine given their active use in Mediterranean trade circuits.
