Obverse description Crowned facing bust of King Juan I within a cusped Gothic quatrefoil frame, the king depicted with long hair and wearing a mantle, set against a beaded inner circle. Small ornamental motifs and pellets fill the spandrels of the quatrefoil. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads + IOHANNES : DEII : GRACIA : REX, separated by decorative stops, all within a beaded border typical of late 14th-century Aragonese hammered coinage.
