Obverse description Crowned facing bust of King James III within a quadrilobe (quatre-foil) frame, the king depicted with flowing hair beneath a prominent crown. Small fleur-de-lis and a cross ornament appear in the spandrels of the quadrilobe. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding Latin legend, itself enclosed within an outer rope-like border. The overall style is characteristic of Gothic hammered coinage of the early fourteenth-century Crown of Aragon tradition.

Reverse description A bold cross pattée divides the field into four quadrants, each lobe of the resulting quadrilobe containing a small floral or star ornament. The quadrilobe itself is set within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend running between the inner beaded border and the outer rope border. The design follows the standard Aragonese-influenced Gothic gros type, with the cross serving as the dominant heraldic element.
