正面描述 Crowned quartered coat of arms of Bavaria-Palatinate within an ornate shield, set in a decorative frame. The date is divided to either side of the central arms within a beaded inner circle. The arrangement reflects the heraldic claims of Ferdinand of Bavaria as Prince-Bishop of Liège. The overall design is characteristic of hammered coinage of the Southern Netherlands in the early seventeenth century.

附加信息

Ferdinand of Bavaria held the see of Liège from 1612 while simultaneously serving as Archbishop-Elector of Cologne — a pluralism that made him one of the most politically powerful ecclesiastical figures in the Holy Roman Empire. This joint issue with Emperor Ferdinand II places it squarely within the Thirty Years' War, during which Liège nominally maintained neutrality while Ferdinand of Bavaria quietly supported the Catholic League. The pairing of a prince-bishop with the reigning emperor on a circulating silver piece was as much a political alignment as a monetary one.
