Real 'Ernestus' - Ernest of Bavaria Hasselt

Ernest of Bavaria was appointed Prince-Bishop of Liège in 1581 through the aggressive dynastic maneuvering of the Wittelsbach family, who were systematically accumulating ecclesiastical territories across the Holy Roman Empire — Ernest himself would eventually hold five bishoprics simultaneously. His tenure at Liège coincided directly with the chaos of the Union of Arras and the Dutch Revolt, leaving the prince-bishopric caught between Spanish Habsburg pressure from the south and Calvinist insurgency from the north. Coinage from his earliest years at Liège is correspondingly scarce in high-grade survivors.
