Obverse description Central cross pattée dividing the field into four quarters, each containing the Portuguese royal arms: the upper and lower quarters bear the five-shield escutcheon (quinas) with bezants, while the lateral quarters display rectangular shields with dots arranged in a quincunx pattern. The cross is embellished with pellets at each terminal and at the inter-quarter junctions. A double-circle border frames the central design, with the circular legend distributed between the two concentric rings in uncial Latin script.
