Schwyz struck billon small change sporadically through the eighteenth century, and the 1776 Rapen falls within a period when the canton's monetary output was largely driven by practical necessity rather than any coordinated reform. The Helvetic Confederation had no unified coinage system, leaving individual cantons to fill the gap for everyday transactions at their own discretion and to their own standards.
The HMZ reference places this among a small cluster of documented varieties from Schwyz, none of which were produced in large volume.
