The surrounding circular Latin legend reads GAST.FR.VN.REG.VSV.FR.PR.DOMB, identifying Gaston as the king's only brother and usufructuary prince of Dombes. The coin is struck on a broad, irregular flan typical of hammered silver coinage of the mid-seventeenth century French feudal issues. |
