The composition fills the irregular flan in a loosely organised arrangement typical of Gaulish silver quinarii of this period. |

The Lingones occupied a territory centered on modern Langres in northeastern Gaul, and their coinage reflects a tribe caught between Germanic pressure from the east and Roman encroachment from the south. The KALETEDOY inscription — almost certainly a magistrate's name or tribal authority rather than a place name — is one of the few legible legends surviving on Lingonian silver, making attributed examples unusually valuable for reconstructing the tribe's administrative structure. Caesar mentions the Lingones explicitly in the Gallic Wars as a people he was careful to keep neutral, sending envoys to them immediately after Alesia in 52 BC.
