| Reverse description | Victory seated left on a throne or cuirass, holding a laurel branch in her right hand and a palm frond in her left, rendered in flowing drapery with careful attention to the folds of the garment. The figure occupies the central field and conveys a sense of serene authority commemorating Trajan's Dacian victories. The surrounding legend S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI is distributed around the periphery, dedicating the coin to the 'best of princes' on behalf of the Senate and Roman people. The reverse die work is competent though the small flan of the quinarius constrains the full composition. The exergue is plain. |
