Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, with drapery visible on the left shoulder, rendered in the realistic portraiture style characteristic of early second-century Roman coinage. The emperor's features are boldly modelled, with a strong jawline and wreath of laurel leaves encircling the head. The encircling legend runs from the lower left around the periphery of the flan. The portrait occupies the majority of the obverse field, with the die work showing the confident engraving typical of the Rome mint under Trajan.
