Beschrijving keerzijde The personification of Victoria, draped and winged, is depicted seated to the right atop a globe, symbolising Roman dominion over the world. She holds a laurel wreath extended forward with both hands, her left wing prominently raised and visible behind her figure. The composition conveys the theme of perpetual Roman victory and imperial legitimacy. The circumferential Latin legend records Tiberius's thirty-third holding of tribunician power, providing a precise date for the issue. The reverse field is plain, with no exergual marking.

Aanvullende informatie

The tribunician year TR POT XXXIII places this quinarius squarely in the aftermath of Sejanus's fall — the Praetorian prefect was executed in October 31 AD after Tiberius's famous letter to the Senate exposed the conspiracy. Whether this small gold issue was produced before or after that rupture is unresolved, but the mint was certainly operating under extraordinary political pressure throughout the year.

Quinarii aurei are inherently scarce relative to full aurei, struck in smaller runs and circulated in more targeted contexts. RIC I 17 is among the rarer Tiberian types.
