At the base of the trophy lie a dagger and a sword, alluding to the Roman military campaigns in Hispania. The reverse legend P CARISI LEG, arranged around the central device, identifies the issuing magistrate as Publius Carisius, legate of Augustus, under whose authority this issue was struck in the western provinces. The composition reflects the standard Augustan Victory type associated with the Cantabrian War. |
