| Описание аверса | Central field displays the Gonzaga heraldic shield, quartered, featuring a rampant lion in the lower portion beneath a horizontal bar dividing the escutcheon. Above the shield rises an ornate crowned or crested helm with elaborate mantling or plumage extending to either side, rendered in the characteristic crude style of hammered small coinage. The entire device occupies the majority of the flan, with the irregular beaded border circumscribing the periphery. The abbreviated issuer legend appears around the field in capitals. |

Rodolfo Gonzaga received the lordship of Castiglione delle Stiviere as a papal fief in 1566, a minor branch of the greater Gonzaga dynasty exercising the kind of small-scale minting rights that characterized the fragmented currency landscape of late sixteenth-century northern Italy. The San Patrignano attribution distinguishes this issue from Rodolfo's other quattrini, likely tied to a specific local ecclesiastical or administrative context that the CNI cataloguers noted but left incompletely resolved.
Billon of this weight was notoriously susceptible to debasement at small lordship mints, and Castiglione pieces frequently show irregular flans as a result.
