| 正面描述 | Central field occupied by the Farnese heraldic shield, displaying the characteristic six fleurs-de-lis arrangement of the Farnese arms, surmounted by a ducal ring or annulet above the escutcheon. The legend runs around the periphery in Latin capital letters, separated by stops, within a beaded border. The die work is typical of mid-sixteenth-century northern Italian hammered coinage, with an irregular flan and bold relief on the central device. |

Pietro Luigi Farnese held Novara as part of a broader papal family land grab orchestrated by his father, Pope Paul III, who carved out territories across northern Italy to install his illegitimate son as a secular lord. The arrangement was always politically precarious — Pietro Luigi was despised by much of the local nobility, and his assassination in Piacenza in 1547 ended both his rule and this coinage simultaneously.
Billon issues of this type circulated hard in a region constantly disrupted by Valois-Habsburg competition for northern Italy, and surviving examples with readable surfaces are genuinely scarce.
