| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the Malatesta heraldic device is depicted in the field, comprising an elephant passant accompanied by small star and crescent ornaments distributed around the central charge. The design is rendered in a crude, high-relief hammered style typical of small Italian medieval billon coinage. The surrounding legend, separated by pellet stops, reads ⸰ DE ⸰ MALATESTI ⸰ P G K, referencing the three co-ruling lords Pandolfo, Galeazzo, and Carlo (Charles) Malatesta. The flan is irregular with a slightly scalloped edge characteristic of hand-struck issues of this period. |
