| Descrizione del rovescio | Central design featuring a floriated or ornamental cross within an inner circle or beaded border, the four arms of the cross decorated with foliate terminals in a style consistent with early Renaissance Italian hammered coinage. The surrounding legend, disposed around the outer field of the irregular flan, identifies the issuing authority. The strike is characteristic of the variable-alignment hammered technique, resulting in a slightly off-centre impression on the planchet. |

Francis Maria I della Rovere ruled Urbino through almost uninterrupted turmoil — he was excommunicated by Julius II in 1509, driven out by Leo X in 1516 in favor of Lorenzo de' Medici, and only restored to the duchy by Clement VII in 1521. Coinage from this reign is consequently fragmented across at least two distinct periods of actual control, and attributing specific issues to particular years within the 1508–1538 window remains contentious among specialists.
The Gubbio mint was a secondary facility, generally less prolific than Urbino itself. CNI XIV records multiple die variants for this type across references 38 through 50.
