| Opis rewersu | The reverse features a tall reliquary or monstrance depicted in the central field, shown frontally in a stylised architectural form with a stepped base and a cylindrical or tabernacle-like body, referencing the relic of the Precious Blood of Christ venerated at Mantua. This iconic devotional image was a hallmark of Gonzaga religious propaganda and civic identity. A circular Latin legend encircles the design reading SANGVIN . XPI . IHS ., invoking the Blood of Jesus Christ. The flan edges are irregular and somewhat clipped, typical of hammered copper issues of fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century northern Italy. The reverse shows green cuprite patination over the copper surface. |
