Reverse description A short, broad cross with splayed arms occupies the centre of the field, surrounded by eight pellets evenly distributed between the arms, all enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The peripheral legend CIVITAS, meaning 'City', is introduced by a cross pattee and separated by a rosette stop, running around the outer border. The design is consistent with the civic coinage tradition of the Carraresi lordship of Padua, executed in a bold if somewhat irregular hammered style typical of late fourteenth-century Italian minor denominations.
