The surrounding circular legend reads FER · D · G · CAST · PRINC, identifying Ferdinand by the grace of God as Prince of Castiglione. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period, with a beaded border visible around the periphery. | Beschrijving keerzijde | A crowned head turned partially to the left, representing the Holy Face (Volto Santo), rendered in a crude but expressive style consistent with hammered billon coinage of the period. The effigy is surrounded by the circular legend VVLTVS · SANCTVS, a reference to the venerated image of Christ. The irregular flan and worn relief are typical of small feudal quattrini struck at Castiglione delle Stiviere in the seventeenth century. A beaded or dotted border frames the design around the coin's periphery. |
