| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a large Gothic capital letter L, dividing the two-digit date numerals '6' and '5' (for 1665) on either side. The surrounding circular legend reads FER · D · G · CAST · PRINC, identifying Ferdinand by the grace of God as Prince of Castiglione. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period, with a beaded border visible around the periphery. The overall style is characteristic of small-denomination Italian feudal issues of the mid-seventeenth century. |
