Aanvullende informatie

Sebastiano di Monfalcone served as Bishop of Lausanne from 1517 until the Reformation effectively ended episcopal authority in the region — the city of Lausanne formally adopted the Protestant faith in 1536, the same year the Bernese conquest of the Vaud brought the old ecclesiastical order to an abrupt close. These coins were struck during a diocese in its final decades of temporal power, and the quart denomination served everyday small transactions in a city that would soon have no use for Catholic episcopal coinage at all.
