The laurel wreath is clearly articulated, encircling the imperial effigy with individual leaves visible despite wear. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, running along the coin's rim. Trajan's quadrans issues of this period are among the last regular bronze quadrantes struck for general circulation in the Roman imperial series. By the reign of Hadrian, the denomination was effectively abandoned — a reflection of its diminishing purchasing power rather than any single administrative decree. These late Trajanic pieces thus occupy an unintentional finality in the history of Rome's smallest bronze coinage.
