| Reverse description | A winged caduceus, the herald's staff associated with Mercury, depicted upright and centrally placed within the field, with two serpents entwined about the staff and wings spreading from the top. The caduceus is a well-attested symbol of peace, commerce, and imperial prosperity on Flavian bronze coinage. The surrounding Latin legend VESP PON TR P is distributed around the periphery, referencing Vespasian's pontifical and tribunician titles. A dotted border frames the design, consistent with hammered quadrantes of this period. The reverse type and legend combination is characteristic of the joint Vespasianic-Titus issues of AD 74. |
