Obverse description Central type depicting a modius (grain measure) rendered in three-quarter perspective, surmounted by corn-ears fanning outward from the vessel's rim, symbolising imperial abundance and the annona. The modius is depicted with careful attention to its cylindrical form, occupying the majority of the field. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads IMP VESPASIAN AVG, proclaiming the emperor's titles, with lettering distributed evenly around the coin's circumference. The flan is irregular and slightly rough at the edges, consistent with hammered production of Roman aes coinage of the Flavian period.
