Obverse description The obverse depicts a modius (grain measure) set upon a low base, with what appears to be a small figure or animal at its foot, rendered in a somewhat crude style typical of late Neronian bronze coinage. The peripheral Latin legend NERO CL CAE AVG encircles the central device, reading partially around the flan. The type is associated with Nero's reign (AD 62–68) and the modius motif reflects imperial concern with the grain supply (annona). The flan is irregularly shaped and somewhat roughly struck, consistent with the low-denomination quadrans coinage of the period.
