Reverse description The reverse displays a large SC (Senatus Consultum) monogram or abbreviated legend in the central field, flanked by the names of the senior moneyers Messalla and Galus. The full reverse legend, distributed around the periphery, records the expanded title of the tresviri monetales responsible for the casting and striking of gold, silver, and bronze coinage by decree of the Senate. The field is plain and unadorned, consistent with the functional, epigraphic character of Augustan quadrantes. The coin exhibits the typical irregular flan and bold lettering of hammered bronze coinage of this period.
