Obverse description A rhinoceros advancing to the right, rendered in low relief with characteristic detail of the animal's horn and stocky form. The flan is irregular in shape, consistent with hammered bronze coinage of the Flavian period. No legend appears on the obverse, the entire design field being devoted to the exotic animal type, which may allude to the spectacles held in the Colosseum under Domitian's reign. The surface shows typical bronze patination and wear.
