Obverse description Depiction of three military standards (signa) in the field, arranged vertically in a row, a characteristic civic symbol used on the coinage of Carthago Nova during the Augustan period. The standards are rendered in a bold, schematic style typical of provincial Hispanic hammered coinage. A partial legend surrounds the design, reading V I N K P TVRV II VIR QVINQ, recording the names and titles of the local duoviri quinquennales responsible for the emission. The flan is irregular and somewhat worn, consistent with circulated examples of this issue.
